Golden Time
&
Our Golden Rules
Golden Time is a time where students explore developmentally appropriate activities of their choice. Students decide together what the Golden Rules of the classroom will be. If rules are broken, Golden Time is removed in 1 minute steps and later in the year, 5 minute steps. At times students need to have an individual behavioural plan to follow the Golden Rules that looks different from other students.
Students missing some Golden Time spend this time conferencing with the teacher and practising the skills inherent in the Golden Rule they broke before rejoining Golden Time. Golden time begins daily for 45 minutes. This reduces to 15 minutes a day and then over Term 4 shifts towards once weekly for 60 minutes. At times extra Golden Time is given for outstanding work as a classroom.
