Term 3 - 'Bringing Stories to Life'

After a lengthy discussion room 11 decided that the best medium for us to bring our stories to life was through songs and music.
We spent a lot of time on short stories and bringing them to life through film last term, it was time for something totally different!  Mr Bailey was so pleased with our decision.

We agreed that we wanted to bring our own story to life.  This meant that we would have to do some research into our families and family members.  We had to learn about biographies and autobiographies.  We decided on our approach to finding the information.  A great way was shown in a story in our reading.

In the story a boy looked at photographs of his grandfather and learnt lots about him.  We liked this apporach and used this on our families.

Mr Bailey bought some booklets for us to collect our research and poetry work.  We were exploring different forms of poetry knowing this would be useful for our songwriting.  Mr Bailey said this would help us express ourselves when it comes to writing our song.

We decided that our songs would be based around dance music for a nighclub.  Room 11 searched the Internet for dance music creators and we found this very cool but simple program.  It was great fun but not quite what we are looking for.
Result, Mrs Ainsworth to the rescue.  We had an awesome program sitting in the school, Ejay is flexible and powerful tool which creates fantastic dance music.  Mrs Ainsworth kindly installed them on our computers and we are loving it!

Our event was taking shape and we decided that we could use the props and backdrops from Joseph as our interior design for the nightclub.  This would give us a great start and we could add to the wonderful designs.  Room 11 wrote letters to the teachers in charge of these areas for permission and they kindly said it was ok.  We found information on egyptian art such heiroglyphs and decided we would create some canopic jars with the first line of our song on the canopic jars using heiroglyphs.

We booked the hall and Room 11 now have the backdrops and props, all we need is a design.  Fortunately, Anton Hine was an expert with Sketchup and he gave us a crashcourse in using it so we started desinging our own nightclub.  Mr Bailey gave us a criteria to follow like including six camels!

Room 11 created posters to advertise DJypt that were very cool and it was hard to decide what one we would change. We combined some of the best posters to create the final two that would be hung around the school. We thought that the one with the discoball would be eighty percent of them and the dancefloor would only be twenty percent because we want the name and late opening to be the key point that everyone notices.

To help improve sales we invited teachers.

There was a huge interest in our music so to help raise funds we created two albums.  One for the boys and one for the girls.
