Term 1

Let Us Entertain You!

This term is about putting on a performance and then reflecting back.  We are going to identify what makes a good person and what helps to make us work together.  The end product is the selection of two children being picked to represent Room 11 on the Year Six School Council based on the characteristics that will identify as ones that make a good person.

Passport to Success

At the start of the year we made passports to succeed throughout Year Six. In Year Six you should be positive, take responsibility, give 100%, be independent and be organized. For us to have proof that we have achieved these goals, we had to stamp our passports beside each name to show that we have achieved it.

Decision

On the first day of school, we made our decision to do an inflatable boxing ring as our inquiry topic. This is a photo of Room 11 very excited about their new inquiry topic. On this day Mr Bailey rang up 321 fun (company for inflatable boxing ring) to organize a time and date for them to arrive at the Family Fun Fair. Room 11 got to work the next day by making our own boxers and making a face on a website called pimp my face. The night turned out to be a great success and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Circle Time

Every week Room 11 has a circle time. A circle time is when we discuss our problems that have happened throughout the class. Grace Poloai wrote down some times for the boxing event. These times helped us through the night so we ran much smoother.

Mimio View

Room 11 has a special tool called Mimio View. All you do is place a book or piece of paper under the camera which projects onto the Mimio, this is a very useful source of the modern day technology. It's great for modeling and for the children in Room 11 to take ideas and put it into their own words for their work.

Trish Hudson

Trish Hudson is the first ever woman referee in New Zealand. She made a special entrance to our school just to see Room 11. She showed us some boxing gear and taught us the rules of the game. She also let us pass around some of the gear which was very kind of her. We are grateful that she gave up her time to be with us.

The New Kid In Town

Marcel Thomatis joined Room 11 Campbells Bay School, at the start of Term 1, 2011. As you can see he made two new friends called Mikey Trifunovich and Jordyn Lunny.  He is fitting in perfectly, and we are very happy that he choose our school to participate in.

T-shirts

To pay for the inflatable boxing ring, we had to make merchandise to earn money. To make these t-shirts we had to print out a silhouette and copy it onto a piece of card. The silhouette had to have something to do with our boxer. After we copied the silhouette onto a card, we had to cut the card around our silhouette. Next, we'd spraypaint the silhouette onto the t-shirts, firstly the picture on the front, and after we put our names on the back.

All entries discussed and written by the Ultranet leaders - Belle Howarth and Eden Greaves
