CBS Takes on Rotorua
By Isabel Ray-Chaudhuri
On the 6th to the 7th of May 2010 Campbells Bay Primary School’s year 5 classes took a Maori Cultural overnight experience to Rotorua.
The children hopped onto the 3 bus and set off for Rotorua. They had a quick bite to eat and toilet stop then they climbed back onto the bus and headed towards Rotorua.
After they had visited their accommodation, The Rotorua Thermal Lodge they went back into the bus so they could go to their first activity. One group headed to The Buried Village and the other went to Te Puia.
At Te Puia they learnt how to make poi and use it in a traditional Maori dance. The boys learnt to do the Haka. They also saw weaving and carving.
Some of them visited The Buried Village where they learnt about the explosion of Mt Tarawera. They saw lots of exciting things there and lots of things that remained after the volcano exploded.
That evening the CBS students went to Maiti where they saw a Maori performance, ate a Hangi, saw some glow worms and a traditional waka coming down a river.
It was a great trip and they hope that they will be able to go to Rotorua again soon.
If I were a Storm
By Josh Robertson
If I were a storm,
I would vacuum up the leaves and watch them dance to the wet, soggy grass.
I would smash against the windows and make a loud BOOM!
I would create a huge tidal wave and it will crash on to the shore distracting cars.
I would flood all the grass and watch it cry in sadness.
I would run around with my powerful wind causing chaos for all the cities.
I would twirl the oceans in a terrible rage with anger.
I would zap all of the buildings and making them breath heavily in pain.
I would pour my rain down onto the wet and soggy roofs and make the children be scared with fear cause of my loud hail.
I would I would put my weight on the earth and create massive earthquakes.
I would breathe on all the flowers and make them look all gloomy.
I would yell my thunder song all over the world making a black ferocious cloud.
I would cover the happy sun and replace it with angry clouds.
I would cover all the rivers with water and make it flood with a fast flowing water and make the river terrified.
I would take a deep breath and let out my biggest most ferocious rain cloud before the yellow sun happily danced over the horizon.

If I were a storm I would knock at people’s doors and scream let me in!!!!!!!!
I would vacuum the washing from washing lines & black mail all the humans below me.
I would spit on people’s faces.
I would stamp my feet with rage and make big smashing sounds
I love to flood cities and put people in shame.
I would scoff all the leaves and puke them back down to the ground.
And close down beaches with massive waves.
Throw a big tantrum and throw lightning bolts at big skyscrapers.
I would curse at the people with howling winds. Whip up tornadoes.
I would crush down nature, for all I care is to make you scared.
All of a sudden out of the blue the sun yells “buzz off storm! It’s my turn now”
It’s pushes the clouds across the sky, vanishing the dark, dull, stroppy storm

Papa revved up the engine and set off down the road. We finally got to the mall hardly able to move our legs from being shut up in the car for ages. I ran to the warehouse my favourite shop and sprinted down the aisle to where they have canvas shoes. I tried on 4 pairs but settled on a spotty pair and a chequered pair. Next I ran down to the other side of the warehouse to find my granddad that is usually in the cleaning or mechanical section. I hauled myself up onto a high shelf and peeped over the high wall. ‘It’s about time I found him!’ I thought. ‘’Papa!’’ I called. He jumped but managed to swing himself round to face me. He was holding a bright yellow extension cord, half of it dangling over his shoulder. He looked just like Bob the builder but without a hat. It didn’t look as if he was going to follow me to get an ice cream so I trudged round to the other side of the wall and asked him for some money. He laughed and teased me but eventually handed over five dollars. Pleased with myself I walked quickly towards Wendys. I decided I’d have a berry sorbet and scoffed it all down before I skipped back into the shop to find Papa. After a while of searching I wondered if I should keep the money for myself but I didn’t think I should so I kept looking for about 10 minutes. To my horror I remembered that he was going to meet me in the super market. I was so mad I could have blown up. I stomped down to the opposite side of the mall in fury and arrived at the super market where he was waiting. He was laughing so hard when I told him what I’d just been through. That was it! I was never going to go shopping with him again!
