Welcome to all the new & returning families at CBS from the PTA (Parents & Teachers Association). All parents are warmly invited to join this group of parents on a voluntary basis.
The core purpose of the PTA is to:
- Organise events and activities for the children and wider school community to make school fun, and foster a community spirit
- Raise funds to contribute to specific projects which benefit the whole school
- Where possible, through a ‘Class Rep’ system, assist teachers (e.g. in arranging parent help within the classroom or on school trips, arranging class social events etc)
The PTA meets approximately once a month for an hour so your time commitment will be minimal. Since most parents on the PTA work full or part time, the meeting times vary to cater for different parent’s work schedules. Toddlers/babies are welcome to come to the meeting. Details of meetings are advertised in the weekly school newsletter and on the PTA page on the school ultranet. The meetings are friendly, social and fun.
Joining the PTA is a great way to get involved in the CBS community, get to know other parents, teachers, and staff. It takes a team effort to make things happen, and many hands make light work! There are many talented and experienced parents at CBS and we need your skills!
If you would like to join the group (attend the meetings), please send your contact details to Milina milina.ristic@gmail.com
Where do funds the PTA raises get spent?
This decision is made by the committee following consultation with school management so please come along and share your thoughts. We welcome input from all parents on what they believe funds raised should be contributed towards at any time. Running a school the size of CBS is a complex and expensive exercise and there is not funding available for everything on the wish list!
PTA Class Reps
Each class has a class rep who acts as a facilitator between the teachers and parents about general matters (not specific to your child/children). Your teacher will outline specific areas he/she requires help with – the junior school tending to need a little more assistance with PMP, swimming etc. : Some examples include:
- Collate a contact list for the children in that class. This can be helpful in arranging play dates or class outings outside of school hours so please share your contact details if you think your child would like to be included.
- Help the teacher to arrange parent help with whatever the teacher in that class requires.
- From time to time, the Class rep may provide specific feedback or request input from parents on particular issues relating to general school issues which are relevant to all children and not specific to your child (e.g. playgrounds, school equipment, sports facilities etc)
It’s up to your class/class rep how often you get together outside of school. Some reps have arranged evenings out with other parents, class picnics, tenpin bowling during the holidays but there is no obligation to arrange anything if that’s what your class prefers!
2012 Key PTA Activities for Term 1
- Second Hand Uniform Sale (end Jan 2012) - this was very successful! Details to follow. Thank you all for your donations and support!
- CBS Carnival (Friday 23rd March) – the key fundraiser for the year and is a fun community event for all friends and family. This year it is linked to the children’s inquiry topic, as it has been in previous years.
