Bonnet Sonnet
When you drop off your kids this morning
in the bus bay of Campbells Bay School
please try to consider child safety
by following this one simple rule:
cars turning left please take the left lane,
those indicating right do what's right,
don't cut across lanes for convenience
you'll give Mr McGowan a fright
(not to mention the poor children crossing
between hazardous bumpers and wheels;
just think, is two minutes you're saving
worth the nightmare of terrified squeals,
the end of a life full of promise
and a hefty jail sentence no doubt?)
Wait your turn in the line quietly
or McGowan will be forced to shout
“for the sake of five minutes in bed
save a life, take the school bus instead”
And for those with an observant eye
who've noticed this isn't a sonnet:
use the same observation when driving,
keep your eyes on the child, not the bonnet!
Anon.
